About ALAF ALAF was formed in 1986 to bring together the latin American community in the United Kingdom and the British public in fund-raising events to help children’s charities in Latin America. ALAF is an umbrella organisation composed of bilateral societies in Britain associated with countries of Latin America, and specialist charitable organisations. The representatives of the bilateral societies form the Board of Directors. The Foundation is a company limited by guarantee and a registered charity. ALAF`s main activity is the planning and organisation of Fairs, at which the societies and charitable organisations sellregional food and beverages, as well as crafts, at their respective stands. The societies which make up ALAF work closely with their respective Embassies, who may take over running a stand when there is no society able to participate. All the proceeds made at the Fair by each stand, are retained by the stand-holders for the benefit of their chosen and previously approved children’s charities. The costs of mounting a Fair are borne entirely by ALAF and met from the sale of entrance tickets, the Raffle, and stands run by a group of British ladies who also donate hand-made products to be sold at the event. ALAF also seeks other sources of income, such as contributors from sponsors and fees from stand-holders not associated with the bilateral societies but who have some connection with Latin America.
